1st day of work

I had a good first day at work!! I'm looking forward to all the other days to come!! It's also, funny to me, now that I've worked for 3 SuperCuts in 3 different states (2 of the locations are corporate) and they're all a little different. So I'm working on getting use to some new things, like signing customers in & ringing them out, and making sure I select the right hair service, discount, product  etc. But I must say I'm really glad I'm working again.

I'm working with my friend Wendy. I was her manager at the SuperCuts in Delaware. Her husband, recruited Kevin to join the Navy. Now they are stationed here too!! Pretty cool, huh?

6 days
til I'll be home sweet home, again!! Good thing I'm working now, so I can sleep at night. Otherwise I wouldn't be sleeping much, because I'm so excited about the trip home!! :D

Oh Buddy

This week Buddy has really started scratching the carpet. It's to the point where it's coming up, and I can easily pull it up and see the flooring underneath. See:

So I googled ways to get your cat to stop ripping up the carpet. Well one was to put double sided tape on top of the area. Sure it worked for a little bit, but then Buddy decided to pull the tape off the carpet. Then I tried the 2nd idea, pour vinegar in a spray bottle and mix it with some water and spray the area the cat is scratching. Supposedly cats don't like the scent of vinegar. I don't know how true that is, because it's not stopping Buddy.
*SIGH*

Anyways, Buddy has found a new spot to lounge on. The printer, which is on my desk.
I start work tomorrow. I know in the last post I said that I was going to start work today, but that got changed. I'm looking forward to working again!! Tomorrow I work from 10-6.

P.S. The other day as we were going to a friend's house, we saw a Carnival Cruise Ship going under the 9A bridge. Yeah I'm still not use to seeing cruise ships on a regular basis. To all you family & friends back home, imagine seeing a cruise ship going under the Delaware Memorial Bridge, ok? That's how weird it is to me seeing a cruise ship (even though there's a cruise ship port nearby). See?

7 days until I'll be home sweet home again!!!

I can't believe that 3 years ago Kevin was at boot camp, and I was the manager at a Supercuts in Delaware.
I wrote Kevin a letter everyday. The highlight of my weeks, while he was away, was receiving his letters he'd write me. His mail was put in the mailbox on Sundays. I remember in one of his letters he said at mail call (when the sailors receive their mail), it was like Christmas, because he would have several letters from me. I made sure to write numbers on the envelopes, so he'd know which letter to read first. I still have all the letters he wrote to me. Here's Kevin & I the day he left for boot camp.

Today Kevin is coming home, after being out to sea for 3 weeks!!!

This week

On Monday my friends Melissa and Jonathan found out that Jonathan's next duty station will be in Seoul, Korea. They don't know any details yet, as to when they're moving, (that's the military for ya) but they are looking forward to it!!

I also found out that I will start working at SuperCuts next Tuesday the 17th!! I'll be working part-time for now, until Kevin goes on deployment, then I'll be working full time, probably. I am looking forward to working again!!

Birthday Festivities

On my Birthday - Cinco de Mayo - Melissa and I went to St. Augustine. We ate lunch at The Floridian, then went to the Spanish Quarters Museum, the Greek Orthodox Church, and the St. Augustine Catholic Church. Pretty neat stuff!! Then we headed back to my place, changed and headed to Buca di Beppo for my Birthday dinner. There we met up with another woman from our church, Gennell. Since it was Cinco de Mayo, there was hardly anyone there. The 3 of us had a delicious dinner. We didn't save any room for dessert, however the waiters and waitresses still sang Happy Birthday to me! They also signed a birthday card for me. Here I am holding it, with their birthday candles.

Then I opened my birthday gifts. I got a gift card to Charming Charlie, which is a jewelry store, a lavender purse and a Mercy Me cd. Buca di Beppo is in the same shopping center as the mall, where Charming Charlie's is, so guess what the 3 of us did after dinner? That's right, we went shopping!! I spent my gift card on a ring and some bracelets. Here's the 3 of us at Charming Charlie's:

Afterwards Melissa and I headed to the Town Center Mall for some more shopping & walking around. There was also a Cinco de Mayo party going on too. On our way back to the car, we stopped at the Cheesecake Factory and got slices of cheesecake to take home with us. I got fresh banana cream cheesecake and Melissa got key lime cheesecake. When we got back to my place, Melissa made me sit in the dining room, and then she brought out a little birthday cake.

I had a good birthday!! :)

So far this week

Monday night Melissa and I went to Lowes with people from Habitat for Humanity, to improve our construction site skills. We even got free stuff for participating!! We got a hat, a tool belt, and a 10 piece home decor multi-tool.
This week is National Women Build Week. So today Melissa and I participated in a Women's Build Day from 8am-3pm. Action News came and interviewed some people and filmed us working. I didn't get interviewed, which is ok, but I might be in other clips that the camera man took. I was hammering all day. I did sub-flooring....nailed & glued in the floor for the 2nd story and also put up walls for the 2nd floor as well. A very productive day. Thankfully there was a nice breeze for most of the day, until early afternoon, then it was just hot. Lunch was provided for us and we also got a goodie bag!!! That's right, more free stuff!! :)  Today we got a Habitat for Humanity visor, red t-shirt, tool belt, water bottle, chap stick, and a bumper sticker. Whoooo hooooo!!!! I also received a free injury too. Well since I was hammering, I accidentally hit my thumbnail with the hammer. It's nice and blue.

Yesterday morning I had Bible Study. We talked about restless souls. It's funny the first word in the lesson this week was homesickness. I definitely feel homesick some days. "Our souls are restless with a longing to see God."  Psalm 63:1  "O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you. in a dry and weary land where there is no water."

Wishing Kevin was here to celebrate my Birthday with me tomorrow.

A day America has been waiting for

Last night I was watching the Phillies game and as the NY Mets were batting I hear the Phillies fans chanting "USA! USA! USA!" Then one of the game announcers said that the news is spreading fast that Osama Bin Laden is DEAD!!!!
5/1/2011 - Osama Bin Laden is DEAD!!!!!

Just like the President said,"Justice is served." Now that he's dead I've seen posts on facebook saying,"Can our troops come home now?" Unfortunately no they can't. If they were to all come home that would be a perfect set up for retaliation from the middle easterners. Now the military bases are on high alert.

Please check out this article I found:

Shrimp Festival

Yesterday Melissa and I went to the Shrimp Festival in Fernandina Beach. I got to drive my car onto the Ferry for the very first time. The Ferry ride was short, not even 5 minutes, so we stayed in the car, and that was a little weird, sitting in my car on a ferry. The rest of the drive was nice. We did a park and ride, so a school bus came to pick us up and took us to the festival. When we got off the bus, we were greeted by 2 pirates, then we made our way to the food. I had fried shrimp and coconut shrimp, yummy!!! There were also lots of craft venders. The weather was pretty warm too.

Sunday May 1st 2011
Today Melissa and I went to Church, went to Singleton's Seafood Shack for lunch, put a few more things in her storage container, then headed to the beach. It was a great beach day!! The water was a nice temperature and for a little bit, I almost felt like I was on vacation. I hope I'm giving you all some motivation, so you'll come and visit me!! hehe!! :)

This Thursday, Cinco de Mayo, is my Birthday. I'm not as excited about it as I normally would be. My guess is because all my family is up north and my hubby is out to sea. However I am looking forward to going out to dinner on my Birthday, with friends!! We're going to Bucca di Beppo!!! YUMMY!!!!!!!
